Reporting to the Commercial Director, whilst working with and reporting on a daily basis to Senior QSs the role of the QS is to work as part of the Commercial team for BMD in the Leinster region. The job will entail working with customer and subcontractors to manage the overall commercial execution of the contract effectively, efficient, and to the client’s satisfaction.
The role is a very fast paced and challenging role within an overall mechanical process plant construction team. The suitable candidate will be someone who enjoys working under pressure, analytically minded, highly organized, and diligent. We expect the individual to be decisive, motivated, dynamic, highly driven, a good communicator and a strong team player
Typical tasks include, but are not limited to the following:
Generation of the BOMs from BIM AutoDesk suite of software including BIM360,
Converting the BOM into a client formatted BOQ, fully priced
Verification of the BOQ for Process Pipework systems and Subcontractor packages such as HVAC
Liaising internally with Senior team members to ensure the Commercial deliverables are delivered to the Client right first time, and on time
Verification of measures via design documentation / drawings
Reviewing all contract changes and updating BOQs and Measures accordingly
Liaise with subcontractors to ensure receipt of their accounts as set out in the contract requirements
Assist Senior QS in reconciling Subcontractor accounts to measures
Processing of subcontractor payments
Administration of customer purchase orders
Management of sub-contractors including; soliciting tenders, evaluation of rates and measures, provision of sub contract agreements, purchase orders, and general commercial management of sub-contractor
Work closely with construction team to track progress claims by sub-contractors and certify payments.
Management of small works variations, including measures, rates, preliminaries and 3rd party costs including materials, consumables, plant etc
Assist QSs with Customer contract administration including progress account valuations, and prepare supporting documentation.
Adherence to company practices, processes and generally accepted industry standards
Review all fabrication documentation, client P&ID’s, vendor equipment drawings/specs and design documentation as required and have ability to create BOMs manually and from BIM databases.
Education, Training & Experience
Degree Qualification in Quantity Surveying, Mechanical Engineering, construction or equivalent
Working knowledge of BIM AutoDesk / Plant 3D / CADWorx for BOMs extraction is a requirement
Proficient in suite of Microsoft applications, Word, Excel, Visio
Mechanical piping system knowledge is mandatory
Logically-minded, able to understand and make associations between basic technical requirements
Accountable, someone who take ownership of tasks form beginning to end.
Organised person who can self-prioritise work.
Decisive, able to make decisions while lacking some information.
Ability to complete successful negotiation and build rapport with customers and subcontractors

Degree Mech Eng or Quantity Surveying Knowledge of BIM AutoDesk / Plant 3D / CADWorx Mechanical piping system knowledge is essential Microsoft Suite
