The role of this Housekeeping/Cateringpost is to help ensure that a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene is maintained. A staff team carries out the day to day management of the hostel.
As a housekeeper you will be responsible for maintaining a consistently high standard of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the hostel. Under the guidance of your manager you will manage financial records in relation to the role and assume responsibility where appropriate for managing costs.
The hostel will be managed in accordance with the directions and policy of guidelines laid down by or on behalf of COPE Galway. This role focuses on ensuring the upkeep of the premises including adhering to Health and Safety and Fire Safety requirements (conducting daily checks).
General Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Hostel Manager or Shift Leader you will:
Set up and adhere to a daily, weekly and monthly system for cleaning in the entire hostel. This should incorporate the cleaning of the kitchen, food serving/dining areas, bathrooms, bedrooms, living areas, other communal areas such as corridorsand offices etc.
Ensure that hygiene and Health and Safety standards are maintained to the highest level and adhere to COPE Galway Safety Statement and related policies and procedures at all times.
Conduct daily Health & Safety and Fire Safety checks.
Maintain adequate cleaning supplies and equipment and order as necessary within the boundaries of the approved budget.
Ensure all financial records in relation to the role, e.g. invoices, receipts etc.are documented meticulously.
Prepare soup and sandwicheson a daily basis.
Treat clients with respect at all times and have an understanding of their needs.
Work within the COPE GalwayCode of Practice and perform such other duties as may be specified by management from time to time.
Attend and participate at approved training programmes and seminarsas required.
Relevant training in this area.
Previous experience of maintaining excellent hygiene standards in a busy environment.
Have good verbal and written communication skills.
Be capable of working on own initiative and be organised in one’s approach to work.
Ability to work aspart of a teamHave an appreciation and empathy for the needs of the clients.
Be of good character and suitably motivated
A willingness to undertake training or updating of qualifications if required
