Organisational Status: Community Management Team
Reporting Relationship: Is professionally accountable to the care manager
Purpose of the Post: The post holder will respond to the community management on-call system at North Dublin Home Care.
North Dublin Home Care caters for the provision of care and support to vulnerable people living in the community.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
DIRECT PROVISION
The supervisory care assistant has out of office hours operational responsibilities which include the following;
Responding in a care capacity to demands of the community
Assisting with covering care calls as required during allocated contracted hours
Supporting home care workers as required in the community
Completing spot checks, home care worker/service user introductions
Ensuring that all relevant policies and procedures are followed, reporting any discrepancies to the care manager or on-call personnel in an emergency situation
Shadowing in new home care workers
Promoting effective channels of communication in order to provide a seamless service.
INDIRECT PROVISION
The supervisory care assistant will:
Complete issue reports when North Dublin Home Care policy and procedure discrepancies are presented, ensuring same is reported to the care manager
Ensure that all record keeping is completed in a professional, non judgemental manner and available for further development and evaluation
Attend team meetings for the purpose of organisational learning and development
Carry out other relevant responsibilities and duties as required by the care manager.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
The supervisory care assistant will:
Have at least two modules towards a QQI (or equivalent) major award and be willing to obtain the full award as soon as possible
Initiate and participate in service evaluation on matters that improve service delivery and working practice
Disseminate current relevant research as directed by the care manager to advise and ensure the provision of informed evidence based practice within the organisation.
AUDIT AND RESEARCH
The supervisory care assistant will:
Ensure that they are compliant with all policies and procedures/ staff handbook
Keep up to date with research that supports best practice and utilise same to influence care support and provision
Participate in the audit of the organisation and submit reports as requested
Identify areas where scope of practice can be advanced
In conjunction with the care manager, outline strategies to achieve the aim of the organisation.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The supervisory care assistant will:
In consultation with the care manager, identify further educational requirements to meet personal and professional development
Demonstrate a commitment to professional development through continuous education and training.

Qualifications and/ or experience
Candidates must: -
Have suitable qualifications to aid role requirements
Have experience in supporting individuals in the community
Have the ability to practice safely and effectively fulfilling professional responsibility within the organisation
Full clean drivers licence and access to own car.
Health
The successful candidate must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the supervisory care assistant’s role and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character
The successful candidate must be of good character.
Age
Age restrictions shall only apply to a candidate where he/she is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age.
Skills, competencies and/or knowledge
Candidates must demonstrate:
Management skills that compliment the North Dublin Home Care ethos for the delivery and evaluation of care and support in the community
Good communication skills, organisational skills, team working skills
Leadership skills and have the ability to inspire others through leading by example
An ability to develop and maintain close links with staff and others as directed by the care manager
Professionalism and be a source of information and support for others as well as being able to work closely with other organisations as required
Competence in completing reports that are adequate, accurate, up to date and in keeping with best practice
Excellent working knowledge of IT e.g. the use of laptop/tablet, care monitoring systems etc.
Good knowledge of people and the adversities of life.
Contract details
Hours:
Week 1 - Tuesday & Thursday hour shifts), Saturday & Sunday hour shifts) = 31 hour week
Week 2 – Monday, Wednesday & Friday hr shifts) = 15 hour week
Total of 46 hours over two weeks (average 23 hour weekly contract)
When rostered days fall on a bank holiday this is a 10.5 hour shift as described on a Saturday/Sunday roster.
Location:
InnerCity and Clontarf area, or as the area base of the company grows.
Rate of pay:
Monday to Saturday €15.00 per hour, Sunday €22.50 per hour, Public holidays €30 per hour.
