Depending on the project, the responsibilities of the applicant will vary daily.
Typical duties will include:
Preparing timber for joiners
Working with reclaimed timber
Speaking to customers (training will be provided)
Removing nails from reclaimed timber
Sanding and waxing timber beams
Using a chainsaw (training can be provided)
Following technical drawings and templates
Selecting the right timber for a job and calculating the quantity needed
Using handheld saw, planes and routers to cut and shape wood
Preparing, maintaining and operating woodworking machinery
Following strict health and safety guidelines
Periodically assisting in yard work, assembling orders etc
Competent use of a forklift (training can be provided)
Ability to carry out basic tasks on a computer or hand-held device.
Ability to work on your own
Managing production schedules and budgets
Conducting quality checks
Producing progress reports for senior managers.
Qualifications / Experience:
Skills for a wood machinist include:
Knowledge of different types of wood and their uses
Choosing the correct timber for the job
Ability to use a range of tools and machines including spindle moulder, surface planer, tenon machine & saws.
Accurate measuring skills
Good communication skills
Ability to read technical drawings.
Ability to lease with clients to clarify drawings / Specifications
